THE SETTING
|
Set on a hilltop in the foothills of the French Pyrenees Queille is located near the delightful small town of Mirepoix (10 minutes drive). It is a wonderful place to take time out in and watch the world go by, with its striking medieval half-timbered houses. On Monday mornings the market stalls fill the square and the cathedral forecourt selling vegetables, cheeses, sausage, olives, spices, honey and bread, baskets, pottery, knitwear etc. There is another small farmers’ market on Thursday mornings and the town is also well served by supermarkets, butchers, bakers and chemists. From spring through to late autumn Mirepoix hosts a series of festivals, fêtes and exhibitions.
Toulouse is an hour and a quarter away and has regular daily flights from Gatwick, Stansted, Paris and most major European cities. There are also flights to Carcassonne which is 45 minutes from the house. You can catch a train from London St Pancras to Pamiers station which is 30 minutes away. |
